Details of Experience:

Mr. George Brown arrived at Quality Center for Rehabilitation and Healing on October 2, 2023, after a previous stay at TriStar Medical Center in Hermitage, Tennessee, where Dr. Kea Jones, MD, and Therapist treated him.  Summit’s clinical team felt Mr. Brown would benefit from more intense, targeted therapy and referred the patient to our community.

Upon Mr. Brown’s arrival, he was greeted by several members of our professional team. Within his first 24 hours, he met with our clinicians, therapists, physicians, administrative staff, and other members of our team, who welcomed him to our community and answered all questions. He was also greeted by the Director of Concierge, Kay Weir, who presented him with a CareRite welcome bag.  While explaining her role as the liaison. Mr. Brown was hospitalized due to the sudden onset of aphasia and subdural hematoma, shortly after diagnosis, an emergency craniotomy and subdural hematoma evacuation was performed. Mr. Brown required maximum assistance with sit-to-stand, bed-to-chair, and chair-to-bed transfers. Per his occupational therapy evaluation, He could not walk and required maximum assistance with his activities of daily living (ADLs). Mr. Brown was cut short due to needing PEG tube placement.

After a few days, George returned to the community, and therapy resumed. Mr. Brown was a willing participant, working extremely hard to return to a functional level. Physical and Occupational Therapists enjoyed working with him for over a month before the patient was discharged. His progress in bed mobility improved from max assist to supervision, and transfers improved from maximum to moderate assistance. Mr. Brown is now able to ambulate 75 feet with a hemi walker. He was referred to therapy for improvement. Initially hesitant and unmotivated, he agreed to work with therapy. He not only worked with them, but he also exceeded expectations. Goerge was very determined at this point, so he started doing a “home exercise” program outside of working with therapy. His standing tolerance improved from refusing to over two minutes with assist. Because of the amazing turnaround, his family purchased him a power chair to help him get out of his room more. Mr. Brown can now transfer to his chair with minimal assistance. He sits in his chair and drives around the community for hours, visiting and attending various activities, which he didn’t want to do until now. Therapy is very proud of how much progress Mr. Brown has made.

Mr. Brown shared that therapy has made a big difference in his life; the therapists never allowed him to give up, and he is very appreciative. He wanted to say a special thank you to the therapist, all the caregivers, and the concierge. everyone here has been wonderful. Mr. Brown will remain in our community as a long-term resident, and it is our pleasure to continue to assist him and accommodate his needs.
