Details of Experience:
Mr. Russell Burris arrived at Quality Center for Rehabilitation and Healing, on April 22, 2021, following a stay at Vanderbilt Stallworth Rehabilitation Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Mr. Burris was referred to Quality Center for occupational therapy and physical therapy. Following a motor vehicle accident, which sent him to the Stallworth emergency room, Mr. Russell underwent a laminectomy and fusion due to a screw causing unbearable pain. The patient was also diagnosed with severe spinal stenosis of the L3-4 and L4-L5.

Upon Mr. Russell’s arrival, he was greeted by several members of our professional members at Quality Center. Within his first 24 hours, Mr. Russell met with a clinician, therapists, physician, administrative staff, and other members of our team, who welcomed him and answered all questions. Russell was also greeted by the Director of Concierge, Kay Weir, who presented him with a CareRite welcome bag and her warm attentiveness, which she provides to all Quality residents and family.

Mr. Russell had his PT assessment performed by Lisa Spencer and his OT assessment by Jennifer Summer. He was a total assist x2 of all his activities of daily living and total mechanical lift with transfers. Due to his constant pain, at the beginning of his stay, it was difficult for the patient to work with therapy; until therapist Lisa began offering myofascial to relieve him of his pain. Soon after, they were able to set goals for the patient to become more functional so he could go home. Mr. Russell stated he didn’t think he would be able to walk again. But refusing to give up, he kept fighting hard. He shared, his wife would have wanted him to do so. She passed away a few months prior to his accident.

Mr. Russell made great improvement in the first two months and built up significant strength. He was able to sit up on the side of the bed with assistance, helping with his activities of daily living. Russell is thankful that Lisa was able to stop his pain and inspired him daily to keep going! Russell has begun taking steps with his walker and max assist x2, working very hard with therapy. He is determined to regain function and return to his prior level of independence. Mr. Russell didn’t just set goals, he amazingly conquered them and is full of life again. Mr. Burris can now walk 300 feet with limited assistance, standby assist with transfers, his pain level has decreased from 10/10 to 0/10, he can go up and down steps with assist, increased self-care with bathing and dressing, and perform meal prep.

Russell appreciates everything therapy has done for him and speaks very highly of all the staff here. He shared that everyone has been very friendly, and he would highly recommend anyone to our community for help. If he ever needs to use our services again, he would return. Mr. Burris will be discharged on July 22, 2021, to his home with his brother to assist him as needed.

Russell thanks the entire Quality team.
