Details of experience:

Mr. Kenneth M arrived at Quality Center for Rehabilitation and Healing on April 29, 2025. He was staying at home alone prior to his accident at his apartment. Mr. M was heading to his eye appointment with his sister who was waiting in the car. As he proceeded to walk toward the elevator his right knee buckled, causing him to fall. After being on the floor for thirty minutes and not able to rise, he called his sister for help. She wasn’t able to assist him with getting up and so she called 911 and he was then taken to Vanderbilt Wilson Medical Center in Lebanon, Tennessee to be examined, treated and discharged home. After two week he had another fall and returned to Vanderbilt Wilson. They transferred him to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he was admitted and stayed for one month due to be diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome and bilateral lower extremity weakness.

Upon Mr. Milliken’s arrival, he was greeted by several members of our professional team. Within his first 48 hours, he met with our clinicians, therapists, physicians, administrative staff, and many other team members, who welcomed him to our community, assuring him they were all there to assist him. He was also greeted by the Director of Concierge, Kay Weir, who gifted him a CareRite welcome bag, explained her role as liaison, and spoke with his sister via phone, answering any questions that he had as well as his sister concerning his stay in our community.

Upon his admission to our community Kenneth was evaluated by Therapy on May 5, 2025. Physical therapy noted that upon his evaluation Kenneth was maximum assistance for bed mobility, non ambulating and total assistance with transfers, needing total assistance with all his adult daily living, and unable to walk 50 fee. He could self-propel short distance in a wheelchair.

Mr. Milliken very determined to return back to his apartment…he didn’t give up. He work very hard with therapy, doing everything he could to build strength in his legs. He realized he wasn’t strong enough to go home at that time, so he disenrolled insurance in order to stay longer as his insurance was about to cut skilled care the following month. But determination and hard work led Mr. Milliken to meet all his long-term goals for therapy. He was now able to walk 150 feet without assistive devices, walk up and down stairs independently, transfer, and complete all his adult daily living tasks independently.

Mr. Milliken had set a goal for himself upon his admission to our community to be able to return to his apartment. He was very thankful to the entire therapy team for all they did to help him get back to taking care of himself. He shared that the staff was wonderful and treated him very well during his stay, and he would return again if he ever needed us. Mr.M was discharged home on August 8, 2025, after walking the red carpet for our therapy rehabilitation graduation program.  We wish him all the best as he continues on his journey towards better health.
